Hi everyone,
I have some joyful news. My new book is officially available for preorder!
This book means a lot to me:
I started actively working on an early version of this book back in 2016, and it became a vessel for self-discovery and healing, as well as the evolution of my work as a coach and mentor.
It represents me overcoming my limiting beliefs about my mental health, my abilities as a writer, and my devotion as a creator.
It captures the intersection of my pain and my passions, the essence of what my creative platform is all about: the power of storytelling as a path to self-discovery, creative courage, and overall well-being. It reflects my mission to help others improve the quality of their lives through the power of the written word.
When my essay, “Choosing My Mental Health Over My Mother,” was published on Shondaland.com in 2018, I received emails and messages from people all over the world who grew up with a mentally ill parent or family member and who struggled to find peace in their adult lives like I did. They shared their stories with me and asked if I had any advice to help them cope. The personal stories and mindset shifts in Story Work are my offering to them, and to anyone who struggles with a defeated outlook due to their life circumstances and self-concept.
the synopsis
Story Work is a guide to understanding the stories we tell ourselves and the actions needed to reclaim power over our narrative.
We absorb the world around us through stories. It's how we make sense of our surroundings, our communities, and ourselves. There's often truth and validity in these stories. But the stories we tell ourselves are not an end-all, be-all. Instead, they're all part of a larger, ongoing, unfinished narrative--one that we must continually refresh, expand, and contemplate to stay soft and open-hearted.
Here's the thing: we can choose to keep these stories open to possibility and imagination--or we can choose to keep them closed. That's where Story Work comes in. Through essays and prompting questions, GG Renee Hill invites readers to breathe new life into the stories we carry. She leads by example, by penning the raw material of her own life: an upbringing raised by a mother with schizophrenia, and a lifetime of internal and external forces trying to minimize that impact.
It was a long, old, heavy story Hill silently carried with her--the powerless girl who lost her voice in the wreckage of her mother's condition -- until she turned to writing and began to change the meaning she'd assigned to her experiences. And she doesn't stop there. Hill invites readers to the transformative practice of creative self-discovery through storytelling -- treating our life experiences as creative material that we have the power to shape. For the person searching, Story Work is the answer that enables us to live with an open-hearted curiosity--one that both fuels and grounds us.
preorders create momentum
The official publication date is November 4, 2025, but preorders are open right now. That means if you preorder your copy, it will arrive on your doorstep on November 4!
Preorders are super helpful for authors. Publishers use preorders to gauge the public’s interest in the book, and the numbers influence things like how many copies are printed and distributed to booksellers and even where the book is displayed in the bookstore.
So I am asking you today to preorder a copy of Story Work and help me start building its momentum. ♥
I am cooking up something special for those of you who preorder. Once you have your receipt, please head over here and fill out this form to be added to my preorder list. In the coming months, you will receive details about an exclusive bonus that will take place in the fall.
No worries if you are unable to order right now, I appreciate any and all support. Please share the news with your friends and networks, anyone that you think this work would be helpful for. Subscribe and stay tuned for updates and opportunities to get involved over the next few months leading up to the release of the book!
Writing opened my mind to the idea that I could change my story, and my hope is that this book will open your mind—whether you consider yourself a writer or not— and empower you to find new pathways for your story, too.
With so much love and gratitude,
GG

Through intimate personal narratives, carefully crafted reflection questions, and guided exercises, this book is not just something you read—it’s something you experience. I paused in each chapter to breathe in its beauty, depth, and invitation to step more fully into my story. Whether you are a writer, an artist, an activist, or someone longing to understand yourself more deeply, this book is a gift. Those who journey through its pages will not only witness the power of storytelling—they will emerge transformed by it.”

"Story Work is a soulful, truth-telling companion for anyone ready to examine the stories they’ve been told—and the ones they’ve been telling themselves. With tenderness and clarity, GG Renee Hill invites us to witness her journey of rewriting a painful past and reclaiming her power through the page. Her words are both balm and blueprint, reminding us that healing is not about having the perfect story, but about having the courage to keep writing new chapters. This is the kind of book you return to again and again—dog-eared, highlighted, and held close."
