“If slowing down is the main thread on the journey of joy-discovery, then letting go is going to be the most difficult act along the way.” — Chelene Knight
Hi friends,
I’m back again with another amazing guest! Next Wednesday, April 17 at 5 pm et, author Chelene Knight will be joining me and the Inner Story Writing Circle for an author chat on Zoom. Chelene is a multi-genre author of four books including her most recent narrative nonfiction release: Let It Go: Free Yourself From Old Beliefs and Find a New Path To Joy, a warm, candid and essential book that will guide the reader to carve a new path to joy.
Y’all. I’m about halfway through Let It Go, and I am enchanted by how Chelene awakens my black girl joy. I’ve been trying to read the book quickly so I can be ready for our chat, but I keep slowing down because it’s the kind of book that I want to take my time with! Centering the seasons as a guide for unlearning and reimagining joy, she offers new pathways to joy-discovery including the insights of a spectrum of black leaders and creatives, past and present.
In addition to her work on this specific book, Chelene Knight is the author of the Braided Skin (Mother Tongue 2015) the memoir Dear Current Occupant, winner of the 2018 Vancouver Book Award, and long-listed for the George Ryga Award for Social Awareness in Literature. Her novel, Junie (Book*hug 2022) is winner of the 2023 Vancouver Book Award, long-listed for the inaugural Carol Shields Fiction Prize and a finalist for the Ferro-Grumley Prize for LGBTQ fiction.
Over the past decade, Chelene has meticulously cultivated a robust portfolio of workshops, editorial services, and custom support systems for authors. Her unwavering commitment to nurturing community has birthed an empathetic editorial approach and a mentorship-driven ethos that aids emerging writers in their development.
She is founder of The Forever Writers Club, a membership for writers focused on creative balance, and is now founder of her own coaching studio, Breathing Space Creative through which she’s launched the Thrive Coaching Program where busy professionals can learn how to manage their energy and make space for all the things they are passionate about. Her next book, a guided journal for authors, is forthcoming with House of Anansi in 2025.
Along with these accolades, Chelene was so friendly and receptive when I asked her to come chat with us. We’ll be discussing her latest book, Let it Go, and guests will be able to ask questions about her writing and publishing journey and her creative process.
