plus: our monthly book giveaway and why creative community is essential
Hi friends,
Our monthly free writing workshop is tonight at 7 pm et. You can RSVP here. Below I’m talking about creative community, and in case you missed it, our monthly book giveaway, And Then There Was Us by Kern Carter.
why creative community is essential
There are ups and downs when you decide to make a living from your art. But centering my values has not failed me yet. Creative community is one of those values.
Nothing has helped me find my voice and my courage more than the communities I’ve created and been a part of where I feel seen, heard, and valued. This kind of nourishment is a key part of a thriving creative life.
Writing does require space and solitude, but aren’t we also in need of connection? Many of us have goals and ambitions, but don’t we also thrive from just being involved? Creative expression is its own reward, and the right communities will remind us of that.
The more I progress in my publishing journey, the deeper my gratitude for the many communities that hold me. Over the years, sometimes the only reason I kept sharing my writing was the genuine connection it gave me to other people, the soul-to-soul intimacy. Writing is vibrational. You are sending out a signal, and not everyone can hear you, which makes you appreciate those who do in a deep, abiding way.
If you’ve been wanting to carve out more time for creative expression and connection, join us! Tonight we’ll be gathering online from 7 - 8 pm et, and for about an hour we write, listen, and share. Hope to see you there. You can RSVP here.
author visit and book giveaway
On Wednesday, May 8, the Inner Story Writing Circle will be joined by author Kern Carter. Kern is an author, filmmaker, and community builder, and you can learn more about his work here.
He recently released And Then There Was Us, a YA coming-of-age novel where a mother’s death forces a teen girl to reevaluate their tumultuous relationship. Our author chat with Kern will take place on Wednesday, May 8 from 5 - 6 pm et.
I’m consistently drawn to books that explore the complicated relationships between mothers and daughters. As I’m reading this book it is bringing up mixed emotions about my own relationship with and estrangement from my mother, although the circumstances are quite different. It’s stirring up new reflections on my own journey of reevaluating our relationship to seek a deeper understanding of her life and the circumstances that shaped her.
We’ll be chatting with Kern about the book, his writing journey, and creative process.
